Pre-Kindy Program
Play-Based Introduction to Formal Learning
Preparing children and families for a smooth, positive start to school.
Starting school is a big milestone for children and their families. At Care for Kids, we understand the importance of feeling confident, prepared and supported during this transition.
Our Pre-Kindy Program is thoughtfully planned for children aged 3 to 5 years. It focuses on providing a positive and engaging introduction to formal learning, while also building the skills, confidence and independence children need to transition smoothly from early learning to school.

Learning Through Play
Children develop early academic skills in a fun, engaging way, including:
-
Early writing and drawing skills
-
Counting and number awareness
-
Colour and shape recognition
-
Listening and concentration skills

Independence & Self-Help Skills
We support children to build independence through everyday routines, such as:
-
Putting on jackets, socks and shoes
-
Packing and unpacking school bags and lunch boxes
-
Placing belongings in designated areas
-
Washing hands after toileting and before meals
-
Opening food containers and peeling fruit

Connections with Local Schools & OSHC
Where possible, we support familiarity with local schools and OSHC services by:
-
Visiting schools or teachers when opportunities arise
-
Introducing familiar songs, rhymes and routines
-
Exploring classroom features such as pencil holders, name tags and baskets
-
Talking about school names, teachers and peers to build familiarity and confidence

Social Skills & Emotional Readiness
We focus on developing strong social and emotional skills, including:
-
Participating in group and mat sessions
-
Listening and following instructions
-
Playing group games
-
Building friendships and recognising friends’ names
-
Asking educators for help or permission
-
Playing independently and confidently

Lunch Box Days
Practising for School. During November, children take part in Lunch Box Days to help prepare for school routines. Families bring the lunch box their child will use at school.
Children and educators work together to prepare a packed lunch, practise opening containers and enjoy their lunch independently, building confidence and familiarity before the school year begins.

Pre-Kindy Library
Once a week, children are encouraged to borrow books from our library. This gives them the opportunity to explore new stories, develop a love of reading, and build early literacy skills.
Borrowed books can be enjoyed at home and returned the following week, helping to establish routines and a lifelong habit of reading.
